MG will launch the new MG S5 EV on the German market on May 19. The all-electric car is intended to shake up the B-segment as an SUV and is available from as little as 37,990 euros.
With the new MG S5 EV, MG is launching a new SUV in the B-segment. The electric car comes in three variants and two battery sizes and will be available in Germany from May 19 for 37,990 euros.
- Up to 480 km range
- 170 kW power and 350 Nm torque
- Two battery sizes: 49 and 64 kWh with 120 and 139 kW charging power respectively
- 453 – 1,441 litre luggage compartment suitable for everyday use
- Available for order from 19 May from €37,990
The new SUV is to be a "compact all-round SUV" that will score with "attractive price-performance ratio, many safety features and extensive equipment", as Marc Hecht, Director PR and Communications at MG Germany says.

New MG S5 EV – Exterior
The dimensions of the new MG S5 EV are 4,476 mm long, 1,849 mm wide and 1,633 mm high, making the new SUV a seamless fit into the compact segment and once again increasing the wide range of choices in the competitive segment. The exterior of the MG S5 EV stays true to the MG design language and doesn't stand out with big experiments.

The quite chic front with slim lights and shark nose sets slight accents, while the rear of the MG S5 EV has an all-round light strip, but otherwise does not stand out too much.

Despite the SUV-typical box shape, the MG S5 EV blends relatively harmoniously into the roadscape and doesn't look bad at all. There are six options to choose from when it comes to paintwork: Pebble Black, Medal Silver, Dover White, Diamond Red, Andes Grey and Piccadilly Blue.
New MG S5 EV – Drive and range
In terms of performance, the new MG S5 EV has only one motor, but two different battery sizes. The drive generates 170 kW of power and a torque of 350 Nm. For the battery, there is a choice between a smaller 49 kWh battery and the larger 64 kWh battery.

The charging power of the batteries is rather mediocre with a maximum of 120 kW for the 49 kWh battery and 139 kW for the larger 64 kWh battery. This means that charging from 10 to 80% takes 24 and 28 minutes, respectively. In terms of range, 340 km are possible with the small battery, the larger one comes to 480 km.
New MG S5 EV – Interior and infotainment
In the interior, there is plenty of space for its dimensions and luggage should also find enough space in the 453-liter trunk. With the rear seats folded down, even 1,441 liters are possible. The design at the front is dominated by the 12.8-inch touchscreen for infotainment, which also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Below the touchscreen there are analog buttons for frequently used functions such as climate and audio control, hazard lights and more. A welcome contrast to the trend of changing everything to touch controls. A 10.25-inch display for the digital instruments protrudes angularly from the dashboard and passes on the most important driving information to the driver.

Fortunately, seat and steering wheel heating are part of the standard equipment, as are numerous safety and assistance systems. MG offers emergency brake assist, cruise control, lane change warning, blind spot warning and collision avoidance as standard.
New MG S5 EV – Sales launch and prices
Orders for the new MG S5 EV will open from May 19 and the electric SUV will be offered in two trim levels: Comfort and Luxury. In the Comfort equipment line, you can also opt for the smaller battery, the Luxury variant only comes in the large version.

The list price for the entry-level model is €37,990, the Comfort with a larger battery costs €42,990 and the top-of-the-range Luxury model costs €44,990. All models are covered by MG's seven-year warranty. This makes the new MG S5 EV models strong competitors in the segment. Only the somewhat weak charging power lets it down a bit, but the price-performance ratio of MG is very good.
